MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Don is bringing much-needed rain to southeast Texas as the system gets closer to making landfall along the coast.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Don's maximum sustained winds Friday were 50 mph (85 kph). Don is not expected to become a hurricane.

The storm is forecast to reach the coast of Texas on Friday night and will weaken after landfall.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Texas coast from the mouth of the Rio Grande to Matagorda.

Don is centered about 95 miles (153 kilometers) southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas, and is moving west-northwest near 16 mph (26 kph).
