SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego police asked for the public's help Saturday to locate a 21-year-old man sought in connection with the stabbing death of a man as he sat in his car outside a Lincoln Park apartment complex.

Police have identified Julio Cesar Mendez, who also uses the surname Vega, as a suspect in the death of a 20-year-old man who was stabbed in a parking lot at 47th and Castana streets about 11:25 p.m. Friday, San Diego police Lt. Ernie Herbert said.

The victim, whose name was not released, drove two female friends to the apartment complex to leave one of the women's child with its father, who lived in the complex, police said.

A physical altercation ensued and the victim was stabbed while he sat in his car, police said. Mendez left the scene shortly after the assault occurred.

Police officers received a report of a fight at the apartment complex and arrived to find the victim suffering from a stab wound, Herbert said.

Paramedics attempted life-saving efforts and took the victim to a hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

Police continued to search for Mendez, who was described as Hispanic, 5-foot-6 inches, weighing 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Mendez was considered to be armed and dangerous and police urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the San Diego Police Department (619) 531-2000.
