TIERRASANTA, Calif. (CBS 8) -- The death of a 16-year-old girl inside a Tierrasanta condominium nearly nine months ago has been ruled an accident.

An amended death certificate filed with the San Diego county clerk's office showed acute alcohol intoxication was a contributing factor in Emily Palmeter's death on Nov. 20, 2010.

The official cause of death was listed as sudden loss of heart function due to unknown causes during physical exertion. The death certificate listed the manner of death as "accident."

Police were called at 1:22 a.m. when the girl was found lying in the living room of the condo in the 5100 block of Via Valarta, San Diego Police Lt. Kevin Rooney said at the time.

Paramedics attempted to revive her but she died at 2:34 a.m., Rooney said.

The girl and her 16-year-old female friend were visiting two men, ages 18 and 19, and were sitting in the complex's hot tub, when the girl left with one of the men to go to his mother's condo, Rooney said.

A few minutes later, the man returned to the tub and said the girl was in medical distress.

No criminal charges have been filed and the girl's autopsy – including blood-alcohol test results – remains sealed at the request of San Diego police.

The victim resided in Clairemont Mesa with her family, according to the death certificate.
