Urgent need to find a forever family for 9-year-old Devon

Posted: Updated:

This little boy has been featured once before on Adopt 8 - that was two years ago, but nine-year-old Devon is still waiting to find his forever family. And the need to find him a permanent home grows more urgent with each passing day.

Devon is a football dynamo and gets his inspiration from Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Devon has met Philip four times at camp. And, when Devon met the quarterback he was excited that Philip knew his name. During camp, Devon's short sessions with Philip made a lasting impression.

"It really builds his self-esteem I think, and it's something he can always hold on to and always have a topic of conversation with everybody," said Protective Services Worker Amy Mecger.

Devon is now nine-years-old. But when News 8 first featured him on Adopt 8, Devon was seven.

Now nearly two years later, he's still waiting to find a forever family and though he's still a ham and loves posing for the camera, he is still trying to grasp the concept of Adopt 8.

"He's so innocent right now still. He still doesn't comprehend a lot of the activities that take place around his life," added Mecger.

Devon is a happy go lucky boy, despite being in the system these past few years.

"He is not jaded yet at all. He still has a beautiful outlook on life," continued Mecger.

Which is why it is urgent a forever family steps forward as soon as possible, before Devon realizes he has no family.

"The longer he stays in foster care, the more doubt he's going to have not only in himself, but in people in general," Mecger noted. "He prays about it at night. It's one of his regular prayers. Anytime I ask him what he would like me to tell the judge when we have a court hearing he always says, ‘tell him I want a home.'"

Devon said that, if he had parents, he would like to play football and watch football games with his dad, and he would like to go shopping with his mom.

Devon deserves parents to give him praise for his accomplishments and give him unconditional love.
