EL CAJON (CBS 8) - Two suspected armed robbers surrendered to police in El Cajon Wednesday night, after a home invasion robbery and chase that prompted a neighborhood evacuation and lockdown. Now, a search is underway for a third suspect.

The home invasion happened around 9:00p.m. in the 4000 block of Oakcrest Drive in Talmadge. News 8 is hearing unconfirmed reports that one of the victim's of that robbery may have been pistol-whipped by one of the gunmen.

After the robbery, a police officer spotted the suspects' vehicle on Interstate 8 near College Avenue.

The trio led officers on a high-speed chase across La Mesa and El Cajon before coming to a stop in front of a home in the 1300 block of Peach Street.

Investigators evacuated nearby homes, locked down the neighborhood, and went door-to-door searching for the suspects who are all presumed to be armed.

Around 11:15p.m., police called out to the suspects inside 1358 Peach Street. Two of the three suspects came outside, walked backwards through a garage, and into police custody.

When they came out with their hands up, the two suspects told police the third man wasn't hiding in the home with them. He may be in the neighborhood on foot.

A police helicopter is overhead and officers are using K-9 units to canvass the area.

A woman told News 8 that the home where the suspected robbers took refuge from police belongs to her brother's family. She says he was held hostage inside with his three young daughters, ages six, nine, and eleven, by the armed robbers.
