SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 16-year-old boy was recovering Tuesday after being shot with a crossbow, which was fired by an occupant of a vehicle the teen targeted during a rock-throwing spree, San Diego police reported.

The victim and another boy threw rocks at the black Toyota RAV4 about 2:15 p.m. Monday in the vicinity of Linda Vista and Mesa College roads, police said.

An occupant of the vehicle aimed the crossbow out a window of the SUV, impaling the victim in the right side, police said. The boy, whose name was withheld, was taken to a hospital, but police did not believe his injury was life-threatening.

The suspects, described as 16- or 17-year-old boys, were last seen heading south on Linda Vista Road in the SUV, police said.
