SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – It was a breakfast of champions of sorts Tuesday morning at Scripps Birch Aquarium.

The SDG&E Environmental Champions breakfast brings together members of the community who are working to save the environment.

This year's event rolled out a new initiative. SDG&E is offering grants to organizations that specifically support environmental education and youth programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The hope is to get kids interested in sustainable energy.

Grants will also be available to organizations that support community programs to get people involved in saving the environment.
