SAN DIEGO (CNS/CBS 8) - About 50 people were displaced Tuesday following a fire that gutted a downtown San Diego bakery located below their apartments, authorities said.

The noninjury fire at in the 700 block Market Street was reported at 11:34 p.m. Monday, according to a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher. It was out around 3 a.m. Tuesday, she said.

The blaze may have been caused by a commercial oven, a local news source reported.

SD fire-rescue Battalion Chief John Fischer told the news station that residents reported smelling smoke over the past two to three days but said they could not identify the source.

News 8's Adrienne Moore files this video report from downtown where fire crews are still at work.
