SDSU to commemorate 9/11 anniversary

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, San Diego State University will host several events, beginning Thursday night.

At 7 p.m., the university will hold a panel discussion titled "Reflecting on 9/11 Ten Years Later," in which several SDSU professors will speak. The discussion will be hosted by the school's Center for Islamic Studies along with the department of political science. The event will be held in Nasatir Hall and is free and open to the public.

On Sunday, the Fletcher 204-bell carillon will ring and patriotic music will be played at various times throughout the day. The memorial toll will ring at 8:46, 9:03, 9:37 and 10:03 a.m. to commemorate the times of the attacks on the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon and the crash in Shanksville, Pa.

The Office of Student Life and Leadership along with the ROTC will host a campus memorial ceremony and flag raising at 11:55 a.m. Monday at the flag pole on Campanile Walkway near Hepner Hall. Attendees will receive pins and ribbons and will have the opportunity to sign a card which will be sent to the first responders in New York City.
