Public hearing on purchase of open space at Sycamore Canyon Preserve

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors Wednesday scheduled an Oct. 12 public hearing on the proposed $2.8 million purchase of open space on the north end of the 2,300-acre Sycamore Canyon Preserve.

The 112.78 acres along Goodan Ranch near Scripps Poway Parkway has a network of trails, is a prime habitat of the California gnatcatcher, and has "world-class" terrain for mountain biking, said Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who represents the area.

"If the mountain bikers out there don't know about this area, they should tune in and go out and visit," Jacob said.

Trails on the property will connect to others that go to Poway and Santee, and will eventually provide access to the San Diego River regional trail network, according to county documents.

Funding for the purchase would come from the county's Multiple Species Conservation Program, augmented by a $200,000 state grant.
