Fireball lights up night sky across the Southwest

Posted: Updated:

(CBS 8) - All across the Southwest people reported seeing a mysterious object in the sky Wednesday night.

The sightings started happening around 7:45 p.m. and astronomers say the fast-moving, glowing object was most likely a falling meteor.

Dozens of people across the Southwest, including residents in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas, reported seeing the strange light moving west to east.

The National Weather Service says there are no reported meteor showers, so this is likely an isolated event.
