Man robs Del Mar pharmacy for prescription drugs, following a failed attempt

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who simulated having a gun robbed a Del Mar pharmacy following a failed attempt to steal prescription drugs from another nearby store, San Diego police said Saturday.

A white man in his 20s wearing a hooded sweatshirt entered the CVS Pharmacy at 2662 Del Mar Heights Road at approximately 6:20 p.m. Friday, according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford. The suspect gave the clerk a demand note and simulated having a handgun, but the employee did not hand over the drugs and the man left the store empty-handed.

About 20 minutes later, a man with a similar description entered the Savon Pharmacy in the 2700 block of Via de la Valle, about three miles from the site of the earlier robbery attempt, Stafford said. The suspect demanded oxycodone from the clerk and again simulated having a handgun inside his hoodie.

The clerk handed over the prescription pain-killer and the thief left the store and was last seen headed west, Stafford said.

The robber was described as a white male in his 20s between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall and about 150 to 180 pounds. He had brown or blonde hair and wore a hooded sweatshirt, blue pants and white shoes.

No one was injured in either incident, police said.
