SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An argument between two transients on an East Village street escalated Tuesday into a stabbing that left one of the men wounded and the other under arrest.

The fight and assault in the 600 block of 16th Street was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.

Following the stabbing, witnesses followed the 63-year-old suspected assailant to the north and directed patrol officers to where he'd gone, SDPD Officer Dino Delimitros said. The man, whose name was not immediately available, was taken into custody a short distance from the scene of the scuffle.

The other man, 54, was treated for a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper back, Delimitros said.
