Controlled burn to be conducted in remote southeastern area of San Diego

Posted: Updated:

BOULEVARD (CNS) - State firefighters plan to conduct a controlled burn over roughly 10 acres Thursday evening in the remote southeastern reaches of San Diego County.

The four-hour operation scheduled to begin about 6 p.m. will clear swaths of non-native grasses out of an open area near McCain Conservation Camp in the Boulevard area, according to Cal Fire.

"This burn is being conducted in the evening to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and higher humidities (and) to allow for a low-intensity burn under the mature live-oak trees without causing damage to the trees," said Mike Mohler, a fire captain with the state agency.
