Grocery store strike averted with contract approval

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Southern California grocery stores are safe from union employees going on strike.

On Saturday night, they voted to approve a contract with the grocery store chains that union leaders urged them to accept.

It brings an end to months of conflict, avoiding a strike that could have crippled the industry. Under the new contract, all workers will pay up to 15 dollars per week for health care.

Vons, Albertsons, and Ralphs will also spend millions of dollars more toward employees' health care.
