SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 61-year-old woman was hospitalized Monday after being seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in San Diego's Castle neighborhood, police said.

The woman was removing a dog that had been hit by a car in the 3500 block of Central Avenue when she was struck by a car about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, said San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The car that struck her was an older red four-door Buick sedan driven by a Hispanic man with facial hair, Delimitros said. The car has damage to the front left side, he said, noting that the driver never stopped.

The woman suffered a broken leg and lacerated liver, Delimitros said.
