Police investigate overnight kidnapping and carjacking

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An armed carjacker forced a 32-year-old woman to go to an automated teller machine to withdraw cash, then drove her around San Diego for several hours before dropping her off on a highway early Tuesday, police said.

The woman was dropped off about 2:30 a.m. on eastbound state Route 94 at Interstate 805, where she used a roadside call box to call police, said San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The gunman -- a light-skinned man in his 20s wearing a brown jacket and gloves -- got into the right front passenger seat of the woman's 2009 Toyota Prius at 700 University Ave. in Hillcrest about 9 p.m. Monday, Delimitros said.

He was armed with a handgun and told her to drive to an ATM, then took over driving after she complied, he said.

He took over driving after she complied and went to the Mission Valley area, where he stopped briefly, bound the woman and put her in the car's trunk, Hoover said.

The victim was still bound when she was dropped off on state Route 94, according to Hoover.

No injuries were reported.
