San Diego wrongful death case settled after ruling

Posted: Updated:

VISTA, Calif. (AP) - A wrongful death trial has ended with a confidential settlement between a security guard, his employer and the family of a man shot to death during an argument at the Vista Transit Center in September 2009.

The North County Times says the settlement was announced Monday, just a few hours after jurors found that security guard Sam Tavallodi acted in a malicious and oppressive manner in the wrongful death of 21-year-old Anthony Wacker of Oceanside and awarded $1.87 million in damages.

Jurors said the guard and Heritage Security Service were responsible for 75 percent of the total, about $1.4 million.

The San Diego County district attorney has declined to charge Tavallodi but the Wacker family has asked the state attorney general to investigate.
