SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two men were in custody Wednesday for allegedly shoplifting some merchandise from a Sears Essential in Kearny Mesa, and one of them allegedly threatened store security with a knife while fleeing, police said.
Officers were called to the Sears Essential at 7655 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, said San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.
The shoplifting incident was upgraded to an armed robbery after it was learned that one of the alleged shoplifters threatened store security personnel with a knife, Delimitros said.
The men left in a Chevy Impala, which was pulled over by police a short time later. Both men were taken into custody without further incident, according to Delimitros.
Their names were not immediately released.
