USS Boxer to return to San Diego from seven-month deployment

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The amphibious assault ship USS Boxer will return to its homeport of San Diego Friday from a seven-month deployment, the Navy announced Wednesday.

Also returning to San Diego Friday are the amphibious dock landing ship USS Comstock and the amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay, according to the U.S. Pacific Fleet Public Affairs Office.

Both the Comstock and the Green Bay are part of the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group.

The Boxer, Comstock and Green Bay left San Diego Feb. 22 with 1,800 sailors for the western Pacific Ocean and the Middle East.

Also aboard were 2,200 Marines from Camp Pendleton's 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Their mission while away was to provide humanitarian aid, support operations overseas and combat piracy.

The Boxer is sixth in its Wasp class and was named for a British ship captured by the United States in the War of 1812.
