ID released of man found dead in Mission Bay

Authorities released the name Wednesday of a 37-year-old man whose body was found floating in Mission Bay about 16 hours after he went missing during a sunset swim in the harbor.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities released the name Wednesday of a 37-year-old man whose body was found floating in Mission Bay about 16 hours after he went missing during a sunset swim in the harbor.

Benjamin Keily of San Diego was swimming off Crown Point when his girlfriend lost sight of him about 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

The woman reported Keily missing, prompting lifeguards to search the harbor for him for several hours. The unsuccessful effort eventually was called off for the night.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, a recreational boater spotted the Keily's lifeless body floating face-down off Ski Beach, lifeguard Lt. Nick Lerma said.

A cause-of-death ruling was on hold pending completion of postmortem tests.
