Police release video of "smash and grab" jewelry store robbery

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - For the first time, San Diego police have released dramatic surveillance video of a group of masked men smashing their way into a Fashion Valley jewelry store and grabbing all sorts of expensive items.

It was just after 11 a.m. on September 16 when three men drove their car through the mall's pedestrian walkway and stormed into the Ben Bridge store.

What happened next was caught on tape.

"You can see one of the suspects pointing what appears to be a handgun and at the same time brandishing a sledge hammer or something with a really long yellow handle. And they just start smashing the cases and are taking the goods. High end like Rolex watches and that kind of thing," said Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department.

The three men drove off with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. Their getaway car was eventually found in a bank parking lot across the street.

If you have any information, you're asked to call police.
