Man who put hidden camera in Starbuck's pleads guilty

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Colorado man who placed a hidden camera in a women's restroom at a Starbuck's near San Diego State University pleaded guilty Monday to attempting to secretly film a person.

James Burkhart, 26, is scheduled to be sentenced on the misdemeanor count on Dec. 7, according to Gina Coburn of the City Attorney's Office.

SDSU spokesman Greg Block said the camera was found on July 17, 2010, near a trash can at the coffee house on College Avenue. Burkhart had no ties to the university, and it was unclear why he was in San Diego, according to Block.

Because he pleaded to a misdemeanor, the defendant faces no more than one year behind bars.
