How Steve Jobs changed your world

Be it the Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs leaves behind a legacy of innovation that made using technology simple.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Be it the Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs leaves behind a legacy of innovation that made using technology simple.

Jobs died Wednesday after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. His different approach to consumer technology had a profound impact on one San Diego woman's life.

You hear it all the time: are you a fan of PC or Mac? One woman says she got her first Apple computer in the 1980s. Something clicked, and she never looked back.

Before Marilyn Miles even gets out of bed, she checks the weather, the stock market, her emails and calendar on her iPhone.

"And that just starts the day," she said.

In fact, it was her iPhone that informed her Steve Jobs had died.

"It struck me kind of hard," she said.

Marilyn is a former educator who wants to thank Jobs for making her retirement so busy. Not only is she learning how to speak French with her iPad, but it now doubles as her personal library and Angry Bird arcade.

"Anybody can use an Apple product," Marilyn said.

Steve Jobs must be smiling from somewhere.

"In my opinion, he was one of those rare people who was able to put some of his dreams and visions into actual products that made a difference," Marilyn said.

A grandmother with six grandkids, Apple products even help her babysit. Whereas many grandmas make homemade apple pies, Marilyn prefers cooking up homemade Apple movies.

Instead of letting technology turn her into an Angry Bird, Marilyn says she has mastered her skills by taking hundreds of training classes at Apple stores, something she highly recommends for others.
