3 attempted ATM thefts reported in Mission Valley and Santee

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Thieves tried unsuccessfully to steal three automated teller machines in Mission Valley early Tuesday, according to police and news reports.

One of the star-crossed efforts occurred at the Vagabond Inn at 625 Hotel Circle South shortly before 4:45 a.m., when a man smashed a window with a baseball bat to get access to the unit, said San Diego police Officer Jane Jacobsen.

About 5:20 a.m., officers received a report of a similar attempted theft at a CVS Pharmacy at 10350 Friars Road, she said.

No other details were immediately released, but CW6 reported on its website that the incidents may be related to an attempted ATM theft that occurred just minutes before the hit on the Vagabond Inn. According to CW6, several thieves in a white van attempted to steal an ATM from the Mission Gorge Market at 7700 Mission Gorge Road. Police did not immediately confirm the report.
