Coping with the heat and brush fire dangers

Posted: Updated:

LAKESIDE (CBS 8 / CNS) - It's another scorcher across the county Thursday with more record breaking temperatures. And, with the extreme heat, comes fire danger, as firefighters have already seen Thursday morning.

A small brush fire broke out near the intersection of Los Coches Road and Old Highway 80 in the Lakeside area at 7:50 a.m. It took fire crews about half an hour to extinguish the flames.

Since then, a man was arrested on suspicion of starting the fire. A witness reported seeing a man set the fire and gave deputies a detailed description, said San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Anthony Ray.

Deputies searched the area and soon assisted the Lakeside Fire Department in arresting a man on suspicion of arson, Ray continued.

The man was taken to a hospital after he developed trouble breathing, the lieutenant reported. The suspect's name and age were not immediately released.
