SAN DIEGO (CNS) - FBI agents in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco are searching for a bank robber they have dubbed the "Mr. Magoo Bandit" and whom they have linked to 12 armed robberies up and down the Golden State, an FBI agent said Saturday.

Bank surveillance pictures of the an have been released, as sheriff's deputies in Ventura County and the FBI added another robbery to the list of heists attributed to the man. The latest robbery was on Oct. 8 in Thousand Oaks, just west of the L.A.-Ventura county line.

The man is called Mr. Magoo because of his balding head and thick glasses, similar to the comic TV cartoon character of the 1960s. The robber has not attempted to disguise himself and has been observed thanking his victim tellers, and walking away from his victim banks in a leisurely manner.

"Mr. Magoo" has robbed two banks in the Ventura County area west of Los Angeles, six robberies in the San Diego area, and four in the San Francisco Bay Area. FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said in a statement that the Mr. Magoo Bandit is a white man in his 40s with balding, dirty blond hair, a medium build, and wearing prescription glasses.

The most recent robbery occurred in Thousand Oaks on Oct. 8, not far from a robbery in Camarillo on Sept. 27. in between those two heists, the same man apparently struck a bank in San Francisco.

The investigation is being conducted jointly by the FBI's San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles offices.
