Poway city council gives green light to four-way stop at dangerous intersection

Posted: Updated:

POWAY (CBS 8) - Poway's City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve the installation of a four-way stop at the intersection of Valle Verde and Solera Way, near Chaparral Elementary School, which many resident contend is a dangerous intersection.

Last month, 36-year-old Sharlotte Kingston was struck by an out-of-control driver north of that intersection, near Dorset Way. She later died from her injuries. Kingston's death sparked a new push for new stop signs at the intersection, where an 11-year-old boy was hit by a car in 2008.

Dozens of residents in Poway made their voices heard Tuesday in their demand for a stop sign at a dangerous intersection. A handful of opponents also voiced their view that additional stop signs were not necessary.

Among the supporters of an all-stop at Valle Verde and Solera Way were a number of children, who spoke at Tuesday's council meeting.

According to city officials, the new stop signs should be installed no later than this Friday, October 21.
