Apple employees celebrate Jobs, stores close

CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) — Apple leaders, employees and pop culture stars celebrated the life of Steve Jobs in a tribute Wednesday to the computer visionary.

The service at company headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., drew hundreds of employees. They crowded into an outdoor amphitheater to reflect on the legacy of the company co-founder, who died Oct. 5 at the age of 56 after battling pancreatic cancer.

Helicopter footage showed banners splayed on the building walls surrounding the amphitheater with pictures of Jobs.

Employees leaving the service said Apple CEO Tim Cook and former Vice President Al Gore were among those who took to the stage. The ceremony was closed to the public.

Across the country, Apple stores shut their doors for several hours so retail employees could watch through a live webcast.
