SAN DIEGO (AP) — A Pacific green sea turtle that was found near-dead of gunshot wounds to the neck in January has recuperated at San Diego's Sea World and is ready for release.
A local news source reports that Bruce the turtle is ready to be returned to San Diego Bay on Tuesday.
When he was found in January, Bruce was dehydrated, had a crack on his underside and was severely underweight.
At Sea World, Bruce has gained 50 pounds, while receiving antibiotics, pain medication and fluids.
Pacific green sea turtles are a threatened species. Bruce has been outfitted with a transmitter so scientists can track his whereabouts.
