SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Padres General Manager Jed Hoyer and Scouting Director Jason McLeod will move to the Chicago Cubs, the teams announced Wednesday, while the Padres named Josh Byrnes to succeed Hoyer.
The Padres will receive a player to be named from the Cubs as compensation.
Byrnes joined the Padres in December as their senior vice president, baseball operations. He was the Arizona Diamondbacks executive vice president and general manager from Oct. 28, 2005 to July 2, 2010.
Hoyer is slated to become the Cubs executive vice president and general manger. McLeod will be their senior vice president/scouting and player development.
The move to Chicago reunites Hoyer and McLeod with Theo Epstein, who was named Tuesday as the Cubs president of baseball operations. Hoyer and McLeod were both executives with the Boston Red Sox when Epstein was their general manager.
