CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A young man was in custody Friday on suspicion of violently robbing two women in Chula Vista in a 10-minute span, police said.

Delaeno Moorman, 21, of San Diego, was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and sexual battery Thursday night, said Chula Vista police Lt. Lon Turner.

Around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, a woman reported being stabbed in her neck and hand while being robbed of her purse at knifepoint in the 200 block of East Orange Avenue, Turner said. He said her injuries were minor.

Ten minutes later, police received another report of a woman being robbed at knifepoint, this time in the 200 block of Slate Street. According to Turner, the second victim was grabbed from behind and dragged around 20 feet.

She was robbed of her cell phone and food she had just purchased, Turner said. Her injuries were also described as minor.

Armed with a suspect description, officers stopped Moorman as he was walking in the 1400 block of Melrose Avenue and discovered he was in possession of a knife, brass knuckles and stolen property from the two women, police said.

The woman then identified Moorman as their attacker and he was arrested, Turner said.

Moorman has two prior convictions -- for driving under the influence, according to the lieutenant.
