LA MESA (CBS 8) - The intoxicating aroma of exotic fresh-roasted coffee wafts down the 7200 block of El Cajon Boulevard.
"You can smell it two blocks down the road and we get folks who smell it and come in for that purpose," Mandi Post said.
Your nose will lead you to Treehouse Coffee, where second-generation Kona native Mandi Post brews up some rare beans.
"We had three extra acres. We planted coffee. A couple of years later, we had our first crop," Mandi said. "We sell my family's coffee here, which is the only place on the mainland you can buy their Kona coffee. But then we also offer our own label. We do pounds at a time, super small batches so we can really customize the experience for the customer."
Treehouse Coffee also offers a cold brewer.
"A 12-hour brewing process using just ice water," Mandi explained. "It's about 68 percent less acidic than a traditional brew."
But that's only half the story, because Treehouse shares its pint-sized facilities with Pubcakes.
"Pubcakes are cupcakes made with craft beer. We figured we'd put one of America's favorite loves, cupcakes, with San Diego's other favorite love, beer, together. We have approximately eight flavors at a time," Kaitlin Jaime said.
Who ever thought you'd hear the words beer, pumpkin and vegan in the same sentence?
"Craft beers usually have a complexity of flavors, so you're going to get those flavors in your cupcake," Kaitlin said.
The blend of boutique coffees with beer-brewed cupcakes is a dynamite combination, and one that can only be experienced here in the 7200 block of El Cajon Boulevard.
