Halloween events around San Diego Saturday

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Halloween is two days away, but several events are scheduled Saturday to enjoy some haunts, tricks and treats.

At Balboa Park, most of the museums will be free to children 12 years old and under from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and many will conduct children's activities.

The event includes a canine costume contest at the Spanish Village Art Center, and a "Great Pumpkin" parachute drop at the San Diego Air & Space Museum.

Other family-themed events will be at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in East San Diego, and on Elm Street in Carlsbad.

In Vista, an observance of the ancient Mexican traditional of Dia de los Muertos -- or Day of the Dead -- will take place at noon at the Rancho Guajome Adobe on North Santa Fe Drive.

For grown-up ghosts and goblins, the 11th annual Dos Equis XX Monster Bash Halloween block party will turn eight blocks of the Gaslamp Quarter into three "mega-clubs." The event includes a costume contest with a grand prize of $3,000.

Also, the fourth night of a five-night Halloween-themed swing dance party called "Some Like it Haunt" will be held at Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park.
