Deputies investigating death of cab driver shot before crash in Lemon Grove

LEMON GROVE (CNS) - An investigation was under way Monday into the weekend death of a 39-year-old taxi driver who was shot and then crashed his cab in Lemon Grove.  

Jalaludin Hamrah's cab, which had rolled over in the 3400 block of Main Street near the Lemon Grove trolley station, was found around 3:50 a.m. Sunday, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported.  

Paramedics pulled Hamrah from the wreckage and discovered a bullet wound in his upper body, said sheriff's homicide Lt. Larry Nesbit.  

Hamrah was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not immediately known whether the gunshot, the crash, or both killed him, he said.  

Hamrah worked for Main Cab Co. and frequently picked up customers in the El Cajon and Lakeside areas, including Barona Resort and Casino.

LEMON GROVE (CNS) - Paramedics called to a taxi cab crash in Lemon Grove Sunday found that the cabbie had been shot, and was dying.

San Diego sheriff's deputies were told that a cab had rolled over at 3445 Main Street, near Broadway, at 3:48 a.m., Lieutenant Larry Nesbit said.

The driver of the taxi cab, who has been identified as 39-year-old Jalaudin Hamrah, was pulled from the wreckage with help from the Lemon Grove Fire Department. As paramedics gave aid to the driver, they discovered a bullet wound in the man's upper body, Nesbit said.

Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was not known if the gunshot, the crash, or both killed him, the lieutenant said.

Detectives have no known suspects at this time.
