SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 27-year-old Navy man was killed Thursday in a four-vehicle crash on state Route 15, The California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened at Ocean View Boulevard about 6:30 a.m., when a Jeep Cherokee lost control as it approached several other stopped vehicles preparing to enter Interstate 5.

The Jeep hit a Honda Civic, an SUV and then the rear end of a Cadillac DeVille with enough force to push the Cadillac into a Toyota Corolla. The Jeep flipped on top of the Cadillac on the right lane of state Route 15, authorities said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert closing two southbound lanes for about 90 minutes. The SigAlert was issued at 6:43 a.m. and the lanes were cleared by 8:23 a.m.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department called in a heavy-rescue team and that pried the two vehicles apart, a CHP dispatcher said.

The Jeep's driver was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Cadillac was taken to Sharp Memorial hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and the driver of the Honda was uninjured, the CHP reported.

All of the motorists involved were male and three were in the U.S. military.
