Police searching for Mission Valley rape suspect

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego Police are searching for the man who allegedly raped a woman at knife point.

Police say it happened at a Mission Valley parking structure just before 8 p.m. They say a woman in her early 20's was walking along Texas Street. She flagged over a passing vehicle, whose driver offered her a lift.

Police say the driver then drove to Mission Valley, where he pulled over in a parking structure and raped the woman at knife point.

The victim managed to escape from her alleged attacker and called 911.

Police say the suspect was driving a black Chevy Cavalier. A preliminary description of the alleged rapist is that of a light skinned African American man in his late 30's with a heavy build.

The victim's injuries are not known.

Police say a case like this serves as a reminder to think twice before deciding to hitch hike.

Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
