SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - When it comes to gourmet meals that are good to go, big tastes come from a small space.
Waters Fine Foods and Catering dispenses delectably fresh lunches and dinners from its 400-square-foot café located on West Morena Boulevard.
"We have an assortment of specialties, handcrafted sandwiches and paninis they can choose from, or we have... from our deli case prepared fresh every morning," Lauren Miller said.
It's all made next door in the Waters Catering kitchen, where they are already ramping up for the holiday parties. These are not still water, and they do run deep.
"Catering, it's our 21st year, and the shop has been open for 10 years," Miller said.
Meanwhile back in the display case, the inviting entrees and salads are a kaleidoscope of creativity. The veggies are museum quality and the regulars can't get enough.
"I drove 10 miles to get the butternut panini sandwich, because they are amazing. They usually sell out," a customer said.
Waters Fine Food and Catering in Bay Park offers the same varied menu as their Solana Beach location. Just check out the litany of lunchables.
"This is our albacore tuna sandwich, fresh pulled albacore with olive tapenade on our house-made focaccia bread. And then we move to a roasted turkey sandwich with pesto and cheese, apple-cheddar stuffed chicken with a vegetable medley and Waldorf salad," Miller said. "Here we have torte honey-glazed salmon and kale and arugula goat cheese, mashed potato."
The soup du jour: roasted squash.
