SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres have updated their uniforms with cleaner, more traditional looks.
The team has a history of uniform changes, but president Tom Garfinkel says most fans didn't want a radical change.
The
updates include adding piping on the home whites, road grays and the
blue alternate jerseys. The team will use block numbers and letters on
the back of the jerseys. The alternate jersey will have an interlocking
SD on the left chest.
A vocal minority wanted a return to the brown-and-yellow scheme from the 1980s, but that didn't make the cut.
Part of the inspiration for the design change came from the old Pacific Coast League uniforms.
Says catcher Nick Hundley: "Now we've got to go win some games while we're wearing them."
The Padres finished last in the NL West at 71-91 this season.
