SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An eighth-grader who collapsed during a dance at her San Marcos middle school in June died of natural causes, authorities reported Friday.

Sabrina Renee Keller, 14, reportedly collapsed and became unresponsive at a school dance June 9. A bystander began resuscitation efforts and 911 was called, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

She was airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, despite aggressive medical intervention, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Her death was caused by sudden cardiac arrest due to "probable cardiac channelopathy" congenital long QT syndrome, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Long QT syndrome is heart disorder which can cause sudden uncontrollable arrhythmias, which can be fatal, according to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health.
