"Resting Up"

Posted: Updated:

After all the training it's time to rest.  I made one last trip to the gym today for a final meeting with the treadmill followed by lots of stretching.  Now it's time for a break.  It's recommended that walkers take at least a one day break before starting their 60 mile journey.  On the schedule for Thursday is simply some last minute details - maybe a fresh pair of insoles for my shoes - lots of fluids and a good night's sleep (the last one is so much easier said that done!).

We had a final meeting at work to go over our plans for coverage and I spent most of it bugging Matt about the weather - because I've somehow convinced myself that he has some influence over the skies.  For now it sounds like a chance for some light rain on Saturday - which is really no big dea - and heavier stuff setting in for Sunday afternoon.  Sunday is a fast-paced walk for most people and the route is shorter on the final leg - about 15 miles.  So hopefully we'll have crossed that finished line, picked up our prized shirts, compared a few blisters and found a warm place to wait for the closing ceremonies.

Right now all I can think about is Friday morning and that magical moment when the thousands of walkers stream out of the Del Mar Fairgrounds in their finest pink as the sun comes up.  I can't think of a better neighborhood to begin this trek either.  The residents of Del Mar are so supportive and the businesses go all out with window displays, pink balloons and free coffee and treats.  So to the people of Del Mar - thank-you in advance!

As for the walkers - unless my nervous energy has me back at the computer adding to this blog tomorrow night - I will see you Friday morning!
