Animation shows new library's plan and progress

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - We're getting a look at an animation of the new downtown library. The $185 million project is being built on Park Boulevard and J Street. When finished, it will feature treasures dating back more than a century.

Animation posted to YouTube from the San Diego Public Library Foundation gives us a sneak peak of what's to come.

The nine-story project is now in week 94 of construction. Another animation now seen on YouTube as well shows the progress with a dome starting to take shape in week 105, around the end of January.

With more than a 100 construction workers on the site on any given day, the building continues to go up at a steady pace.

The new library's opening date is expected in mid-2013.
