LINDA VISTA (CBS 8) - A pursuit ended with a wild confrontation in Linda Vista on Thursday night, where a man rammed a CHP cruiser and drove his car into a fence before officers took him down.

Officers fired pepper balls at the suspect, who managed to trap himself between a small concrete wall in front of him and officers behind him, in the backyard of a home on the 6900-block of Sun Street.

CHP's verbal attempts to get the driver to exit the car were unsuccessful. The man suddenly  put his car into reverse and floored it, backing up and slamming into a CHP cruiser.

The highway patrol car was knocked back about four feet. There were no officers in the patrol car at the time. The driver then put the sedan in drive and attempted to drive forward once again.

He drove the vehicle onto an embankment,  where he wasn't able to drive any further. He crashed through a storage shed and was stopped by a chain link fence.

The man eventually climbed out of a passenger side of the car with his hands raised and pants around his ankles. CHP says the driver's level of sobriety and mental state was unclear at the time. Although officers say they did find prescription drugs, marijuana, and empty beer and liquor bottles in the car.

The suspect was transported to Sharp Hospital to be evaluated for possible injuries. He now faces charges for felony evading, resisting arrest, and assault with a deadly weapon with a vehicle.
