SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Somewhere right now on the streets of San Diego, Bill Kelley, his wife Debbie and daughter Jessica are out to teach an old dog new tricks.
"We like to get around. We want to get our name out there," Bill said.
So this family of frankfurter fanatics tows The Dog Shack all round the county to tempt people's palates with their deep-fried dogs.
"We've invented our own batter. It's not so much a corn batter, it's a wheat batter, and it's on a stick," Bill said.
The ingredients in the batter are a closely guarded family recipe.
"I don't know if we're going to give you all of our secrets about dipping the dogs," Bill said.
But they will share their roster of hot dog delights with anyone who happens by their current location. They drop by the shack for dogs like the Husky. Add some freshly peeled curly fries and you've got curbside service with a twist.
"I didn't bring lunch to work, so this is perfect," a customer said.
Even if you're looking for breakfast-on-a-stick, The Dog Shack can hook you up.
"We also do a sausage on a stick that we dip in pancake batter, and we serve syrup with it, so that's a tasty treat," Bill said.
Like most food trucks, they pull their 35-foot-long rig into any available parking space in a high-traffic area. Faithful foodies follow The Dog Shack on Facebook and Twitter to learn its location, and this truck does have its BFFs.
"Well, there's a lot of people that just love a good corn dog," Bill said.
On any given day, in any random neighborhood, the first family of franks not only believes in their dogs, they'll stick up for them.
