Chula Vista's Starlight Parade celebrates golden anniversary Saturday

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Starlight Parade in Chula Vista will celebrate its golden anniversary Saturday, just one of several holiday-themed parades and activities that are scheduled.

The 50th Starlight Parade steps off at 6 p.m. for the 50th time along Third Avenue between E and H streets. About 5,000 people are expected to participate, either as part of marching bands, riding on floats or riding in cars.

The days festivities begin at 11 a.m. with the North Park Toyland Parade and Holiday Fair. The parade is on University Avenue between Utah and 32nd streets, and the fair is at the Birch North Park Theatre.

Also slated for Saturday:

-- the continuation of "December Nights," at noon in Balboa Park;

-- the 32nd annual Ocean Beach Holiday Parade, at 5 p.m. at Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and Newport Avenue; and

-- the Encinitas Holiday Parade at 5 p.m. on Coast Highway from D to J streets. A tree lighting ceremony is also scheduled at the Lumberyard shopping center, 937 S. Coast Highway.
