DENVER (AP) - A Colorado attorney suspected of stealing up to $1 million from his clients is waiving extradition in California to return to Colorado to face charges.

Royal Daniel was in jail in San Diego after being arrested Wednesday while entering the United States from Mexico.

According to KUSA-TV, Daniel is expected back in Colorado within a week.

According to a local news source, Daniel says he had a pleasant life in Mexico but decided to return and take care of unfinished business. Daniel denied taking money from clients and said he left Colorado because of the pressures of his job and other responsibilities.

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado attorney suspected of stealing up to $1 million from his clients has been arrested in California nearly five years after he disappeared.

Police in Breckenridge, Colo. said Thursday that Royal "Scoop" Daniel is in jail in San Diego after being arrested while entering the United States from Mexico.

Daniel disappeared from Colorado in April 2007. After an initial search by friends and police, authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, alleging he never returned clients' money from real estate transactions.

District attorney Mark Hurlbert told the Summit Daily that authorities don't know where Daniel has been since he disappeared.
