MTS to shut down trolley service downtown this weekend for upgrade

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Trolley service will be shut down this weekend along C Street in downtown San Diego so crews can work on upgrading the Blue and Orange lines.

According to the Metropolitan Transit System, the trolley will not run between San Diego City College and the Santa Fe Depot train station from 10p.m. Friday until the beginning of regularly scheduled service Monday morning.

The MTS will operate shuttle buses that will stop at the college, Fifth Avenue, City Hall, America Plaza and the train station.

The agency is in the midst of a $620 million project that will result in smoother rides and new, low-floor trolley cars on its oldest lines. Officials hope the improvements will result in faster trips and better on-time performance.

Signs will be posted at the affected stations to give instructions to passengers. Information will also be available online at sdmts.com, the agency's Facebook and Twitter pages, and by phone at (619) 557-4533.
