Affidavits released in Sweetwater school officials investigation

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego County district attorney's office has released affidavits used to justify search warrants served last week on a construction contractor and six current and former officials at two school districts.

The San Diego Union-Tribune says the documents show officials at the Sweetwater schools and Southwestern Community College District regularly sought expensive dinners, theater and sports tickets and other gifts from contractors who worked for the districts.

The newspaper says the documents laid out timelines showing expensive dinners followed by key votes on how to spend hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer-approved bond measures.

The affidavits allege that the officials accepted the gifts, then failed under penalty of perjury to report them on required Statement of Economic Interest forms.
