VISTA (CNS) - A Vista man accused of sexually assaulting two female customers at the Oceanside tire shop where he worked pleaded not guilty Thursday to sexual battery charges.

Oceanside police said Jose Ortiz Giron is suspected in two separate assaults that occurred in October and earlier this month at the Olive Tire Shop in the 200 block of Airport Road, near Mission Avenue.

The defendant was charged today with one felony count and one misdemeanor count of sexual battery. He faces four years and three months in state prison if convicted, said Deputy District Attorney Laurie Hauf.

Giron, 41, is accused of groping the customers both under and over their clothing while they waited for their vehicles to be serviced, Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata said.

The defendant was identified by the alleged victims and subsequently taken into custody at his workplace on suspicion of felony sexual battery, Mata said.

Vista Judge Marshall Hockett ordered Giron held on $50,000 bail. A readiness conference was set for Jan. 9 and a preliminary hearing for Jan. 11.
