SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A 19-year-old hiker, and his beloved dog, are safe Friday after becoming stuck on the side of a cliff.

The two were on a hike, when the teen's dog, Lola, chased a water bottle over the LA County foothill.

The teen then climbed down to save her. They hung on for their lives, and waited for help.

"I thought it was the end of my life cause I saw the bottom and there's nothing I can hold to, and I was like first I have to keep my dog safe. If anything happens I want it to happen to me not the dog ," 19-year-old hiker, Ivan Salas said.

Firefighters dangled out of a helicopter to rescue the duo.

Lola was first and then her best friend made his way down the cliff, after saving her life.
